Worked example. If you tested on Monday, November 2, 2026, scores would typically post by Wednesday, November 25, 2026, the last Wednesday release within four weeks. You would plan around Monday, December 28, 2026, eight weeks after that date. Thanksgiving Day falls in or just after that window, so a release could be a week later.

What a Step 2 CK score report includes

Step 2 CK is reported as a three-digit score with a pass/fail result. USMLE lists 218 as the passing standard for exams administered on or after July 1, 2025. The report also includes a performance profile that shows relative strengths and weaknesses by content area; it is for your own planning and is not included on transcripts sent to programs.

Every numeric score contains measurement error. Current USMLE materials give a standard error of the estimate of about 8 points for Step 2 CK, so a difference of a few points between two examinees is not meaningful. While you wait, the Step 2 CK score predictor shows what range your practice scores suggest.

Making the wait useful for applications

Residency programs receive USMLE results through your application service, ERAS or ResidencyCAS, not by paper transcript. Authorize transcript releases early and again after new scores post, so that your Step 2 CK result is sent as soon as it exists.

If a deadline depends on your score, USMLE advises allowing at least eight weeks after your test date. Add the deadline to the calculator to see the latest test date that still allows that.

Release timing in short
