Worked example. If you tested on Monday, October 5, 2026, scores would typically post by Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the last Wednesday release within four weeks. You would plan around Monday, November 30, 2026, eight weeks after that date.

How USMLE score release timing works

USMLE releases Step scores on Wednesdays. Each release generally includes examinees who tested within the four weeks before the release date, and USMLE says results are typically available within four weeks of your test date. USMLE also notes that many factors can delay an individual release.

The organization that registered you (NBME or FSMB) emails you when your score is available and posts it on its secure website. USMLE does not publish a list of release dates by test date, so any calculator can only estimate the window from these rules.

What this calculator shows

Typically by: the last Wednesday release on or before four weeks (28 days) after your test date. Plan around: eight weeks after your test date, which is the time USMLE advises allowing for notification and the point after which it asks you to contact it if you have heard nothing.

A deadline check compares your test date with a deadline that needs your result, and shows the latest test date that still allows eight weeks.

Holidays and delays

USMLE says new scores are not released the week following some holidays, including Independence Day (July 4), Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Day. The calculator flags a holiday that falls in or just after your window. It does not move your date, because USMLE does not publish exact holiday release dates.

USMLE also says the scoring process is not expedited or accelerated for any individual or group, so a release cannot be requested early.

Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 3 differ in what you receive

Step 1 is reported as pass or fail. Step 2 CK and Step 3 reports include a three-digit score and a pass/fail result. USMLE gives one timing statement for all three computer-based exams, so the release window is the same; what differs is what the report shows and, for Step 3, that the exam takes two days. Each Step has its own page with those details.
