NBME SCORE CONVERTER

NBME score converter.

Turn the three-digit score on your NBME, UWSA or other practice score report into an estimated USMLE score range, and see how it compares with the passing standard for Step 1 or Step 2 CK.

Loading the calculator…

Private by design: the numbers you type never leave your browser. Passing standards reviewed ; see the methodology for every assumption.

How to use the NBME score converter

  1. Pick Step 1 or Step 2 CK, then the practice exam you took.
  2. Type the three-digit score from the score report. If your report only shows a percent correct, use the NBME lookup table to find the three-digit score first.
  3. Press Calculate to see the estimated exam score, its range and the chance of reaching the passing standard.

What this NBME score converter does

NBME and other providers publish their own score reports, and for the CBSSA and CCSSA NBME provides a lookup table that turns a percent correct into a USMLE-scale score. This converter starts from that three-digit score. It then answers a different question: given that practice score, what range of exam scores is realistic, and how likely is it to clear the passing standard?

Why a range, not one number

The same practice score can be followed by different exam scores. The converter treats your practice score as the best single guess and shows an 80% range around it that is wider for less predictive exams and for older scores.

Where to find your three-digit score

Open your score report in the NBME MyNBME portal, or in UWorld or AMBOSS for their exams. If the report gives only an equated percent correct, NBME's lookup table for the CBSSA and CCSSA converts it. Enter the converted score here.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official NBME to Step 2 CK score conversion?

NBME's own score report and, for the CBSSA and CCSSA, its lookup table are the official sources for how a practice result maps to a USMLE-scale score. This converter does not replace them. It starts from that score and adds a realistic range and a chance of passing.

What NBME score is equal to a passing Step 2 CK score?

The Step 2 CK passing standard is 218 for exams administered on or after July 1, 2025. A practice score at that level is close to a coin flip on this model, and the chance rises as the score rises. The table on the Step 2 CK predictor page shows how.

Can I convert a UWSA score to a Step score?

Yes. Choose the UWorld Self-Assessment, enter the three-digit score from its report and the converter treats it the same way, with a slightly wider range than an NBME form because it is a less certain predictor in this model.

Do NBME practice scores predict the real exam?

They are useful estimates of readiness, not guarantees. NBME says the estimated probability of passing on its CCSSA report is not a guarantee of future performance, and the same caution applies to every practice exam.

What is the difference between a score converter and a score predictor?

A converter starts from one practice score and gives the estimated exam score with a range. A predictor, like the Step 2 CK score predictor on this site, can combine several practice scores, weighted by how recent they are.

Are my scores stored?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to the server.
