About the program

Established in 1995 as a Rural Training Track, the Caldwell program trains residents in broad-spectrum family medicine with an emphasis on rural and underserved Idaho communities; 88% of graduates practice rurally. The continuity clinic is physically attached to West Valley Medical Center, an unopposed 150-bed community hospital where residents work in the ER, ICU, OR and other areas. Rotations also take place at Saint Alphonsus, St. Luke's Boise and Nampa, and the Boise VA, with substantial elective and longitudinal time in years two and three.
