About the program

Established in 1977, this Christian, community-based family medicine residency is the only residency at St. Vincent's East, where residents run hospital codes and manage their own patients, including in open ICUs. Continuity clinic is at Christ Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, mainly at the Chalkville site. Training also includes pediatrics at Children's of Alabama, sports medicine at Andrews Sports Medicine Institute, and an obstetrics focus with FM-OB faculty. Residents have mission trip opportunities and 5-6 months of electives, and Alabama medical students can join an integrated fourth-year pathway.
