Idk why my brain refuses to hold onto balancing clinical evaluation grades w/ shelf exam percentiles. Every time I review my missed qs, I see it was showing up 10 mins early, knowing your patients cold, volunteering to follow up pending studies, and being kind to nurses/staff or blocking off the final 10 days before the shelf for NBME clinical mastery series forms to learn NBME phrasing, and I tell myself I wont miss it again, then 3 days later I do the exact same thing.
Especially when the stem sets up disappearing from the ward at 1:00 pm unannounced to study, which tanks clinical evaluations. What helped this click for you guys?
Context: currently while doing rapid review flashcards trying to connect pathophys to mgmt.

Honestly the trick that saved me on balancing clinical evaluation grades w/ shelf exam percentiles while doing rapid review flashcards was focusing 100% on asking residents on Day 2 "What makes a student stand out on this service?" and executing those exact things. Dont try to memorize a massive table while you are tired trying to connect pathophys to mgmt.
Instead, split the stem into two quick checks: (1) is showing up 10 mins early, knowing your patients cold, volunteering to follow up pending studies, and being kind to nurses/staff present, and (2) how does blocking off the final 10 days before the shelf for NBME clinical mastery series forms to learn NBME phrasing change the next step? 90% of the time people miss this bc of disappearing from the ward at 1:00 pm unannounced to study, which tanks clinical evaluations. Write a 1-line contrast note on an index card and read it before your morning block tomorrow, it clicks super fast.

What helped me lock in balancing clinical evaluation grades w/ shelf exam percentiles while doing rapid review flashcards trying to connect pathophys to mgmt was making just 2 quick contrast cards comparing showing up 10 mins early, knowing your patients cold, volunteering to follow up pending studies, and being kind to nurses/staff vs blocking off the final 10 days before the shelf for NBME clinical mastery series forms to learn NBME phrasing instead of re-reading the whole chapter.

Same here! English is my second language too and long stems on balancing clinical evaluation grades w/ shelf exam percentiles used to eat my clock while doing rapid review flashcards trying to connect pathophys to mgmt. Reading the last line + showing up 10 mins early, knowing your patients cold, volunteering to follow up pending studies, and being kind to nurses/staff first makes it way faster.
