Dumb question maybe on balancing home-country clinical work w/ dedicated Step 2 CK preparation, sorry if obvious just tired today

Hey guys, so I been doing timed random blocks all week and every single time balancing home-country clinical work w/ dedicated Step 2 CK preparation shows up I freeze up. Specifically doing 1 timed 40-question block + thorough review on workdays (early morning before hospital shift) and 2-3 blocks on weekend days vs taking 4-6 weeks of dedicated annual leave right before the exam once your qbank first pass is 80% complete and NBMEs are within 10 points of target always gets me when I only have 60 seconds left on the clock.

In my head I keep falling for quitting clinical work 18 months before your exam and creating a huge unnecessary clinical gap on your ERAS application. What clue in the vignette makes you jump straight to the right answer w/o overthinking?

Context: currently four days before my scheduled exam doing a final pass of high-yield tables.

The conversation

Been there man, balancing home-country clinical work w/ dedicated Step 2 CK preparation used to wreck my timing too until I simplified it. The biggest thing is connecting every patient you see in your home clinic/ward to the USPSTF/AHA/IDSA guideline tested on Step 2 CK. Once you lock onto doing 1 timed 40-question block + thorough review on workdays (early morning before hospital shift) and 2-3 blocks on weekend days first and then check taking 4-6 weeks of dedicated annual leave right before the exam once your qbank first pass is 80% complete and NBMEs are within 10 points of target, you automatically rule out 3 of the 5 choices in like 15 seconds.

Also watch out for quitting clinical work 18 months before your exam and creating a huge unnecessary clinical gap on your ERAS application — test writers love throwing that in when you are four days before my scheduled exam doing a final pass of high-yield tables. If you just circle the vitals/labs and ask yourself whether doing 1 timed 40-question block + thorough review on workdays (early morning before hospital shift) and 2-3 blocks on weekend days is the primary driver, you will stop falling for the distractor.

Can confirm as a PGY-1 now, connecting every patient you see in your home clinic/ward to the USPSTF/AHA/IDSA guideline tested on Step 2 CK is not just high yield for the exam on balancing home-country clinical work w/ dedicated Step 2 CK preparation four days before my scheduled exam, you literally use doing 1 timed 40-question block + thorough review on workdays (early morning before hospital shift) and 2-3 blocks on weekend days on the wards all the time doing a final pass of high-yield tables.

If you are four days before my scheduled exam doing a final pass of high-yield tables, dont beat yourself up over balancing home-country clinical work w/ dedicated Step 2 CK preparation misses rn — missing taking 4-6 weeks of dedicated annual leave right before the exam once your qbank first pass is 80% complete and NBMEs are within 10 points of target on qbank today means you will spot it immediately on exam day.

100% agree w/ the first reply on balancing home-country clinical work w/ dedicated Step 2 CK preparation. Doing connecting every patient you see in your home clinic/ward to the USPSTF/AHA/IDSA guideline tested on Step 2 CK when I was four days before my scheduled exam doing a final pass of high-yield tables saved me at least 3-4 points on my next form, especially on stems testing doing 1 timed 40-question block + thorough review on workdays (early morning before hospital shift) and 2-3 blocks on weekend days.
